“I am a conduit for ending transport poverty”

I’M PASSIONATE ABOUT

Social injustice – which is really 100 issues, not one – but my core focus at the moment is making sure people can get to work without having to have their own car. Outside London, buses are disappearing and, for low-income workers in towns and small cities, a lack of transport can genuinely prevent them taking on jobs (let alone accessing medical care, affordable supermarkets or seeing their friends and family). At the same time, there is a huge range of 21st century transport technology being built for San Francisco, London and Berlin. Yet almost nobody is thinking about how to build solutions for the places they’re really needed: Skelmersdale, Wellingborough or Middlesbrough. Tandem is focused exclusively on towns of that size.
